The Old Hospitals
During the Medieval Age several hospitals rose to host indigent people, travelers and pilgrims. One of the most ancient hospitals is named San Donato in Avane, where lodging was offered to old and poor people, as documented in the historians’ works. Not having any financial support the home lost its function in the seventeenth century. Other examples of old homes are the S. Maria del Pellegrino in Montegonzi and a room next to the church of S. Paolo in Montaio.v
